The Science of Music-Home School Camp

Join us as we engage in fun hands-on activities and experiments that reveal the deep connections between music and biology, anatomy, physics and math. You will record and analyze sounds from the animal kingdom using Cornell University's Raven recording and editing software. You will discover the anatomy and acoustics behind how animals communicate in the natural world. By tracing mathematical patterns in nature, you will learn how beauty can be found in the designs of flowers as well as songs. You will be provided materials to craft your own banjos. After creating and rehearsing songs together, we will end the week by performing with your handcrafted instruments. Prior musical training is helpful, but not required. This camp has been offered at Cary Academy and area charter schools.

Schedule: week long, in the mornings

Enrollment: 6-15 students
