In late March, about fifty Fort Irwin homeschoolers got an up-close and (a little) dirty look at life in the sands, brush and rocks that make up most of the National Training Center. On March 26, Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division and NTC G3 Integrated Training Area Management staff hosted about 30 home-schooled children nine years and younger and their parents who visited five “discovery stations” at DPW environmental outreach center (Building 606) on 5th Street near Barstow Road. The next day, about twenty 10-17 year-old students explored the Painted Rocks area of Fort Irwin Road, to learn more about the geology, biology and archaeology of the surrounding area.
