If you haven't seen this wonderful new book by Kim Brenneman, it's worth it's weight in gold! Kim is a homeschool mom of 9 who shares what she's learned ''in the trenches'' about household management and homeschooling. Even if you have only 1 child, you will benefit from this book. Her advice is so practical and simple. So many times as I'm reading it, I think ''why didn't I think of that?''

The book is over 300 pages and is large like a textbook. The chapters are also nice and short, so they can be easily read in a bit of time here and there, but each is chock full of info and encouragement. I have read many other home organization books, but they always left me overwhelmed and discouraged. This book has encouraged me and now I feel like I am managing my home instead of it managing me. I love that she incorporates scripture throughout.

Dealing with Testing Anxiety

My youngest child had a HUGE fear of tests. It was so bad when we started homeschooling that he would literally get a stomachache. So, I started being sneaky: testing him without him knowing what I was doing. We would sit down together with a write-on / wipe-off board and I would get him to explain to me how to work a math problem. Before he knew it, the test was over and he was moving right along.

Students as Teachers?

Sometimes no one can get a point across to a child better than another child. Don't be afraid to let older children help with younger children. Often it will give the young ''teacher'' a boost of confidence and help them as well!
