Organization/time management
Homeschoolclassifieds.com organization

I have a listing of around 200 items for sale and receive alot of buyer correspondence weekly.

I have a specially dedicated e-mail address to handle only requests for purchasing curriculum. One way to keep better control and organization as I receive e-mail about specific pieces of curriculum that I have up for sale is to file the correspondence in specific file folders when I receive and read them.

I place initial e-mails and those I have responded to into my ''Sale Pending'' file folder.

Then when the person responds back stating they are not interested in purchasing, I file that one away and previous correspondence with them into my ''Sale Questions'' file folder.

If a person wants to purchase curriculum I go to my homeschoolclassifieds.com list and check the box to hide the item until I have mailed the item to them. After I have received payment and mailed the item to the buyer I go put all our e-mail correspondence into the ''Sold Curriculum'' file folder and go to my homeschoolclassifieds.com list and ''delete'' that listing line.

If the person decides not to purchase the item I go back into my homeschoolclassifieds.com list and uncheck the box so others can now see it again.

The Goal of Education

An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life. ~Author Unknown

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives. ~Robert Maynard Hutchins

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. ~John Dewey

Curriculum Criticism: Mind Your Tongue

Every curriculum is different. Each child is unique. Therefore, not every child is going to fit every curriculum as every curriculum is not going to fit every child. With this said, let's not criticize other's curriculum choice. (Your criticism could inadvertently cause a family to stumble/fall and question their homeschool journey by undermining their confidence and their directed God-given choices.) The success of your curriculum should be measured by the success of your child, not others.

Remember, we all have one purpose in mind: educate our child(ren) to the best of our God-given ability. It doesn't matter what road we each take; we will all meet at the end!!!! Instead, help each other and encourage each other along their homeschool journey!

Humor
Beware of using kids' cute, made-up words

When our sons were young, the four year old said about the toddler, ''Mom, Ryan is running around the house with something he's not supposed to have, and it's ''break-el-ish''. Well, we've used that word around our house for many years. Our daughter, who was born 4 years after this event has grown up hearing that word, and unfortunately, just recently learned that it isn't a proper word. How mortified she was, and expressed to me, ''Mom! No wonder people look at me so weird when I use that word. I've been saying that for 14 years!'' (Sigh) I wonder if I should tell her that the stuff in the can we love is not really ''fruit 'n cottontail''.

Bible & Spiritual growth
Need help every day

To surrender each day at the start to God. If I seek him in the morning before the day starts through reading his word and prayer on my own then with the kids the day is often much better. I so need his help to teach his children !

You can Do it

The first couple of years that I Homeschooled I would look at the piles of new books in August and cry. I can't do this I would think. But every year I did do it. I would take the books and curriculum after the kids went to bed and plan it out step by step so that I would be at least 2 weeks ahead of the kids. When the kids were older I kept my plans to use on the younger ones and just made adjustments for them. Then I would just have to be one step ahead of my oldest. You just learn the stuff first, before them. My point is don't get overwhelmed looking at the big pile, just take it step by step. You can do it even if you think you can't.

Math: fundamentals
Learning times tables and wiggly willies

My son has struggled with times tables from the beginning so when he turned 12 as you can imagine I was getting a little desperate because now he was beginning to hold up other learning. I went online to rainbow resource and found this cheap little book that has made all the difference in the world for my ''wiggly willy'' It is called 10 days to multiplication Mastery. The title says it all and it really works. It uses learning wrap-ups and works on one or 2 sets of times tables a day until you become a master. I am so glad I found this. I have a friend who is using this with her 8 yr old son and it seems to be working well for him also.

Ministry & missions
Loving Missionaries

Our family loves to follow missionaries in their work. We stay connected with them through newsletters and pray for them daily. Parents' excitement over God's work around the globe gets the children excited, too! This can also be helpful with geography.
