book recommendation...

I think mommies with sons in about middle school level would want to consider: Super Grammar by Tony Preciado and Rhode Montijo. This book is a graphic novel with it's theme around superheroes and villians. The back of the book reads: ''What's faster than a run-on sentence, more powerful than a double negative, and able to stop a sentence fragment in a single bound? It's Super Grammar.

The various superheroes and villians take on Grammar: with explaining sentences, parts of speech, punctuation and common grammar mistakes. I purchased it for my son to review these concepts, as we have some ''rough edges'' to work on.

Paged through this book and it is not wierd or disparaging. In fact, I think the explanation of these concepts are thorough and provides examples throughout the book for each. The illustrations are bold, vivid and very colorful. Again with the various aspects one would find in comic books.

Scholastic is the publisher. The book's ISBN #978-0-545-42515-5 copyright 2012.

I hope that helps!

Children, Honor Your Parents

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:1-3 NASB

Live long and prosper when you honor your parents. It is not always easy to apply, but it is wise guidance to strive to follow. Strive understanding the meanings of the words ''love'' and ''honor'' and you will do well. It is the key to success.

Husbands & Fathers

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

When fathers tear down their children, they are provoked to anger. It does not always come natural to encourage others...But like in all things, with practice, you get better at it.

The book of Proverbs is full of so much wise advice for fathers (families) to guide their families. It starts in the home and with fathers. Your role is great! Do not wait for someone or something else to teach and guide your family. I pray for fathers to stand up for their role, to understand and model it well.

There are so many things to challenge families. Do not get so busy that it all passes by without any grasp of this special role and the relationships that are tied to dads. Be careful about all the distractions that show up (not just for you, but in the family as well).

Be encouraged! God loves His children and never forsakes us. To Him be the glory.

Husbands & Wives, Keep a Connection

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27

Homeschooling sure is tough work some days! It requires planning and balancing! Even if it is a little effort, keep your relationship alive! It is not hard for families to lose touch in this busy world!!! Even if it means some things have to go, protect not only your family-time, but your husband and wife time as well. It may be doing crosswords together before bed, making a meal together, talking about what the kids are learning or making, or other talk....find enjoyment in what you do together. Keep a live connection and watch out for static!!!!
