Homeschool helps
Preparing your child for post-homeschool

For 19 years I was a homeschool parent. I belonged to, and later led, our local homeschooling group. As well, I taught in Christian Schools before we started our homeschooling adventures and am currently in year 5 of teaching in Christian School post-homeschool. I feel old just writing all that!

A couple suggestions for those of you still in the trenches. First-- it's well worth it! Stay the course! But, there are a couple areas that may have escaped your thoughts that now, being on the outside looking in, are helpful to address.
a. Vary how you approach subjects. Many of the homeschoolers who wind up in my classroom have only done a subject one way. They become lost if it is not the same.
b. Many homeschoolers arrive having had Mom or Dad at their shoulder, ready to jump in and expertly explain how to do things. Life doesn't stay that way. Encourage you child to work through a problem on their own. Develop their skills in finding other resources to solve issues. Teach them to organize their materials so they can go back and forth as they research and develop their solutions.
Obviously, we could discuss these are great length but my intent here is to get the thought into your arena to ponder and develop.
