Audio and Internet Supplements

We have used two high school science programs that offered an audio component (the author reading the text) either in CD or USB form. This has been a tremendous help for the students to hear scientific terms pronounced correctly as they visually read along in the textbook. Also for some of the experiments which required chemicals that we were not privy to use, we were able to find some kind soul had put videos on the internet of that exact experiment. Although a huge fan of the written word, I have found great benefit in these added resources.

Help Your Student Teach

As part of our Business and Consumer Finance course, our High School student taught a math course designed for younger students. He had to know the material well enough to be accurate himself as well as explain it to his siblings and help them with their questions. Each kid had their own ''store'' purchasing inventory, filling orders, paying taxes, completing ledgers, and writing checks. We learn so much by teaching our children. Give them the opportunity (requirement) to teach as well. They'll be surprised how much they learn.

Testing
ACT, SAT & CLT

The ACT and/or SAT are usually taken in the Junior year allowing time for results before college application. Just wanted to mention the CLT (Classic Learning Test) which is an ONLINE standardized test. Their website has a list of colleges which accept their scores as well as a comparison of scores between the ACT and SAT. In our area, I have found more dates available for the CLT as well as quicker result back. You may want to check into it :).
