You Don't Have To Do It All

As a ''retired'' home school mom, I look back on all that I did and didn't do for my daughter. I put a lot of pressure on her and on myself by trying to cram in every lesson or chapter and by working every day. We should have stopped to smell the roses, as they say. I wish we had relaxed and had a bit more fun. That being said, I'm proud of what we both accomplished; it was a lot! My daughter graduated college this May with her associates degree. She worked hard during her home school career. For that matter, I worked hard! Now, I get to smile at her proudly as she achieves a major accomplishment. With a heart that overflows with love, I remember our journey and look forward to her future accomplishments. Our hard work paid off. But, a word of caution; don't forget to live life, stop and have fun too.

Math: fundamentals
Saxon Math Intermediate 4

After reading Cathy Duffy’s review, I bought the new Saxon Math Intermediate 4 for my son even though we already owned the classic Saxon 4/5.
Having used it for a year, I would have stuck with the classic. The Intermediate 4 wasn’t bad, but both books cover the same topics in about the same way. If you have the Classic 4/5, use it and save your money.

Baking & cooking
Buy a dry-erase weekly calendar

If you struggle with meal planning, try a weekly meal planner using a dry erase magnetic board that goes on your fridge.

Everyone knows what we're eating and it prompts me to defrost meat or prep veggies. Very convenient and quick.

Have you tried posting schedule on fridge

We have a large dry erase calendar on our fridge where I copy the schedules of each family member in a different color. It's super helpful to keep everyone on the same page and avoid forgetting important dates and events. Even our 10 year old reads it and it saves us answering the endless question, ''What are we doing today?''

Art & music
Hoffman Academy excellent online learning

I wanted to recommend Hoffman Academy to any homeschool families wanting to try piano lessons at home to save time, travel and money. We've used for over one decade and feel very satisfied with the quality of instruction and knowledge of the keyboard and music theory. Please check them out!

Sewing & needlework
Homemade Crafts

Remember, enjoy the process and don't be afraid to keep some of the ''mistakes'' in your project. It makes it one of kind and helps you not foster a habit of perfection in a hobby that should increase relaxation not increase stress. Enjoy the craft. Enjoy using your hands.

Use your phone's ''notes'' app

I have found my phone's notes app to be so helpful in keeping track of all the thoughts that pop into my head. Try it! You can set up categories like ''to do'', ''errands'', ''curriculum ideas'' and so on. It will free up lots of brain space for the more important things!

Bible & Spiritual growth
Have you seen Generations curriculum?

I just wanted to share Generations.org with our readers as it has been such a source of help in discipling our children. They have 1st-12th curriculum which is excellent and truly biblical. I highly recommend.

Encouragement

The days are long but the years are short. Mine are out of the house, working, getting married...I'm not needed like I was. Reflecting on our years together make me feel like they flew by! It was not easy but oh! so worth it! Hang in there. Build in a fun time each day.
