Motherhood as a Mission Field

I thought this was a great and encouraging quote for we homeschooling moms. We can burn out so quickly, forgetting that we are serving in a mission field. One that will yield one of the highest rewards!

Jim Elliot famously said, “He is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Motherhood provides you with an opportunity to lay down the things that you cannot keep on behalf of the people that you cannot lose. They are eternal souls, they are your children, they are your mission field.

Lighting a Fire for Learning

One of my favorite homeschool quotes is: ''Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.'' Sometimes we become overwhelmed with the curriculum choices and the pressures to 'fill' our students up with knowledge when really, we just need to be excited about what we love, investing our time in passing on that passion to our children. They will catch that fire if we love and honor them, share with them, and give them room to explore & discover their own interests. Most likely, we'll catch some of their passions, too! Giving kids exposure to passionate people and resourses will help them to see what learning is all about - life-long love of experience & knowledge in a field of study. So don't fill them! SET THEM ABLAZE!

Quotes and Advice

Here a few quotes that I like:
-- Focus on helping children do what is right, not just stopping doing what is wrong.
-- The child that is hardest to love is often the one who needs it the most.
-- Teach as though the future depends on it -- it does.
-- Lord have mercy on us all as we guide your little children.

Recycling as you Ship your Curriculum

As I prepared to ship curriculum sold on the classifieds, I realized that I had no more shipping envelopes to recycle. I didn't want to spend the time or money necessary to get new ones, and stumbled on a simple solution.
Grab those extra gift bags from the last family celebration, cut them to lay flat, and you've got sturdy, colorful wrapping for the next outgoing shipment! The larger bags will hold a box or multiple books, and many of them are coated, which helps them hold up well in whatever weather they might travel through. If you don't want your shipment to say ''for your wedding,'' ''baby congrats,'' etc., simply wrap with the printed side in. Happy shipping!
