Book Swap Co-op

As Homeschoolers, many of our families live on one income, forcing us to find even more ways to be frugal. Many times I have wondered how on earth I am going to get the curriculum or resources my family needs. As the saying goes, ''necessity is the mother of invention''.

I've had the idea to create an online-based lending library strictly for homeschoolers. Sometimes we don't want to get rid of a particular curriculum or resource thinking we may need it for subsequent children later on down the road, yet these resources sit for years collecting dust. Could it be that someone else would love to borrow our educational treasure trove of materials? Maybe they can't afford curriculum any other way.

What if were possible to create an online blog or other web page where members/followers could post curriculum and resources they would be interested in loaning out? What if you were that person in need of a particular resource and you could borrow it for an agreed upon amount of time for a meager deposit and the shipping fee? (The deposit would cover the curr. in the event of an accident, meaning the curr. was not returned in the same condition it was lent in.) Books that are not a main curriculum source could be lent only for the shipping fee.

This is just a loose idea at this point, but I was wondering if there is any interest in this sort of co-op? This co-op could be designed in a series of mini-co-ops that would serve only the local counties or the whole of the US. If anyone is interested, please email me at JusNanc@gmail.com.

Trusting In The Lord.

God does not make mistakes. He already had everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen planned all the way down to the precise moment from the very beginning of time!! He knows what you're going to say and do before you know. And remember, things don't just happen, they happen for a reason!!

Encouragement to start your school year

Copied from a homeschool loop, but original source was lost/unknown:

Dedicate the whole thing to the Lord again.
Ask Him to anoint you and your children.
Ask God what to focus on this year and what to skip, what does HE want.
Expect specific answers.
Give thanks in advance.
Let His peace fill you. John 16:13
Use your anxiety as a barometer for how much you are trusting.
Lather. . . rinse. . . repeat.

Have a great school year!

The Timer Is Our Friend

My son was taking too long to write his spelling words. So, we got the timer out and set it for one minute. I had him start the timer and write one word and put the pencil down. Then we let a the rest of that minute go by. We did the whole list that way. Then I informed him that this is what he was effectively doing with his free time.

I then had him start the timer and write as many words he could in one minute. We then counted the words on his list (including vocab. words & their meanings) and divided it by the number of words that he could write in a minute. We determined that he should be able to write his list in about 20 minutes (factoring in about 5 minutes of idle time). He found out how much time he was wasting and was then able to focus better and write his list faster.

The timer has been our friend ever since.

Best marriage book I've ever read

The best marriage book I've ever read (after the Bible) is Love and Respect by Eggerich. It expands on the Biblical admonition that husbands should love their wives, and wives should respect their husbands. It is very readable, and every time I read it I realize there is yet another way I can apply these all important truths. (It is worth reading every year, in my opinion. :)

One thought in case you pick up a copy: I only read the parts that discussed what women were supposed to be doing for their husbands and did not read the parts that discussed men were supposed to be doing for their wives. That way I didn't have the wrong focus, if you know what I mean. *wink* :)
